A graduate of the University of the Sunshine Coast’s creative writing program, Zachary Ashford was born in the UK before migrating to Australia as a child. He published his first novella in 2020 through Unnerving. Since then, he’s been named on the ballot of the DITMAR awards twice, once as one of Australia’s best new talents in speculative fiction and once in the Best Novel category. He’s been nominated twice for the Aurealis, once for the Australian Shadows Award (for his metal-themed tragedy POLYPHEMUS), and for the Imadjinn award in the US. His works are infused with mythology, allusions to classic texts, and his love of metal music. He’s also a high-school teacher, regular convention panelist, and school-visiting speaker. He now lives in Eastern Europe, is married to a wonderful woman, loves traveling, has four awesome cats, and a room full of paperback horror and action figures. He is represented for film and media by Alec Frankel of IAG.
